The Kuusamo scenery is famous for its unique beauty. In winter, the best way of enjoying the splendid views is to take a cross-country skiing trip.

There are about 500 km of maintained cross-country skiing tracks in Kuusamo area. You can pick and choose amongst easy trips, sunny tours on the ice and of course also really demanding tracks with steep ascents and descents. All tracks are maintained for traditional (classical) style, and all of the central tracks of Ruka, the Kuusamo Center and Oivanki are available also for free style (skating style).

The first ski tracks are opened in October-November, and the whole network (500 km) is in use in February. It is recommendable to carry a cross-country skiing map and route guide with you, then you can check the best resting-places and other detailed information along the route easily.
